Chitra Fichera

My name is Chitra Fichera. I am a credentialed mental health nurse and psychotherapist. I have been working in the mental health sector for the past 18 years and as a nurse for the past 30 years. At times, the current mental health care models could be problematic for consumers. Although, there has been a push towards recovery focused care but the reality is way more complicated. Health professionals tend to decide what would and should work for the consumers in terms of their mental health. As such, I had the opportunity to observe, learn and have robust discussions with consumers, carers and peers to explore ways to support consumers in a more productive way.

In my private practice, I would be focusing on supporting consumers by exploring a variety of options and ways to reach the life they have ENVISIONED, and how not to lose hope when life challenges occur along the way, because many of us use the painful experiences to REINVENT self. These experiences could shift our perspective and help us to find meaning and live a purposeful life.

I had the opportunity to work with consumers from all walks of life. These individuals were able to reemerge much stronger than they were prior to their mental health struggles with effective support. Consumers are the experts of their lives. However, all experts need support at some point of our lives, and it is okay to not to be okay all the time.

I have the expertise in providing individual and group psychotherapy. I have decided to start a private practice to further utilise my skills in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Positive Psychology to walk beside my expert consumers during their journey towards a fulfilling life they have envisioned.

The process of moving towards the life we have envisioned requires a series of reinvention of self.
